US Politics | I’ll work on issues Sun readers care about from Day 1, says Rishi Sunak

TACKLING illegal migration is one of five major emergency responses I will tackle in my first 100 days as Prime Minister. People are tired of seeing small boats arrive in this country with the authorities appearing helpless to stop them. ReutersRishi Sunak says: ...Tackling illegal migration is one of five major emergency responses I will tackle in my first 100 days as Prime Minister' '/ ' I know Sun on Sunday readers are patriotic, generous people who want to help those who play by the rules. But they are rightly baffled why the Government can't stop the boats drifting on to Britain's beaches hour by hour. Like many of you, I voted for Brexit in 2016 to take back control of our borders. So we can and we will stop the boats under my leadership. I won't shy away from giving migration a greater role in foreign policy. If a country won't cooperate on taking back illegal migrants I won't think twice about our relationship with them when it comes to foreign aid, trade and visas. This is part of my plan to deal with the biggest emergencies facing the country as I set out my approach on other issues such as the NHS and the economy. A little over 12 years ago, a Labour minister scribbled a devastating one line note to leave on his Conservative successor's desk as he ran out of the office. It read "Dear Chief Secretary, I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left." As I gave a speech in Grantham yesterday, I reflected that there had never been a better illustration of Lady Thatcher's famous assertion that "Labour governments always run out of other people's money". We Conservatives don't run out of money. We sort out Labour's mess. We balance the books. We get stuff done and we're always the most trusted on the economy. That's because, like Sun on Sunday readers, real Conservatives get the hard work done before enjoying the fruits of success. And that's how my government will be run — true to the Conservative values that have made us the most successful democratic party in the history of the Western world. Yesterday, I set out how I'd bust the NHS backlogs.
