The historical bridge had been closed for renovation work for six months and had only reopened to the public just four days ago. It attracted many sightseers celebrating the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, and Chhath Puja holidays over the weekend. Authorities are reportedly investigating whether the company that runs the bridge and sells tickets to pass across it had completed the proper safety checks ahead of the holiday season. Officials told local media the bridge might have been operating without a ...fitness certificate.... Brijesh Merja, Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Employment (Independent Charge) of Gujarat, said authorities have taken ...responsibility... for the incident.
