AN EX cop put his children through years of horrific abuse, resulting in the 2020 freezing death of his young son, a court has heard. Former NYPD officer Michael Valva, 43, stands accused of beating, starving, and forcing his children to sleep on dog pads.

The couple was charged with second-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child. They are being tried separately. The child's mother Justyna Zubo-Valva filed a $200million wrongful death lawsuit last June against Suffolk County officials and school representatives, claiming that her son's abuse was apparent before his death. According to prosecutors, the boys started being abused right after the couple moved into the home at 11 Bittersweet Lane in Central Moriches in 2017.
