The victim, student Geane da Silva de Brito, 19, was shot and stabbed to death with a machete. The suspect is said to have been shot as he tried to flee the scene, according to a statement by city hall that described the incident as an ...unimaginable tragedy.... The outlet reports that the suspect was a student at the school but did not attend classes. Police have launched an investigation into the shooting. The suspect's dad who is a police officer was called to the police station to testify. He said that his revolver was hidden in the house and that he believed his son did know where the gun was. The victim's devastated dad José Ferreira told local media he would have ...put himself in front of the bullet to save his daughter's life.... The fatal shooting happened on the same day a gunman opened fire on students at a school in Russia, leaving at least 17 dead.
