Paul was detained in the Napa Couty Jail before being released on bail. He did not appear in court on August 23, but his attorney, Amanda Bevins entered a guilty plea on his behalf. His guilty plea comes three weeks after Paul pleaded not guilty to the charges which would require a trial by jury. The settlement had been scheduled for August 23, and Bevins told The Washington Post: "At a settlement conference a defendant may enter into a plea agreement, continue the matter for further settlement conference or set the matter for a jury trial....
