The details were published in a memoir, obtained by The New York Times, which is set to be released in full in August 2022. "This was a personal problem and not for public consumption," he wrote. "With the exception of Ivanka, Avi, Cassidy and Mulvaney, I didn't tell anyone at the White House — including the president," According to the excerpt, the relator said a substantial part of his thyroid was removed during the surgery, which came during tense negotiations with China about a trade deal. At the time, he described how he used work to distract himself from his impeding surgery and the magnitude of his diagnosis.
