Insiders suggest many have begun lengthy walks back to their hometowns in a bid to avoid being caught on public transport. Workers have claimed the area surrounding the factory has been locked down, with most staff members being subjected to daily testing to try and contain the spread. This was despite claims made by the Taiwan-based company Foxconn on Sunday that it would not stop workers from leaving. Factory owner Foxconn has already had to cut production by a third in the run-up to the festive season. Last year, about a third of £165billion iPhone sales happened between the final quarter of the year, according to Apple. The tech giant has already warned of shortages this Christmas, with supply chain issues earlier in the year and the rapid sales of the iPhone 14 seemingly to blame. Foxconn is now desperately trying to shift production to other plants, including one in Shenzhen, in south China. The Taiwanese firm has also quadrupled bonuses for workers in a desperate bid to get them to stay and calm the situation at the factory.
