THE family of a girl who died after plunging 100 feet while hiking has paid a touching tribute as they released details of her funeral. Little Everly Montgomery, 10, fell while visiting the Garden of the Gods trail at the Shawnee National Forest in Illinois on July 29.

The youngster's family has paid tribute to her in an online obit. They said: "Everly loved riding her bicycle to the local library. She was a bright, inquisitive young girl and an avid reader. She was due to enter the fourth grade at the school where her mom Heather is a teacher. The school district said: "Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of our elementary teacher Mrs. Montgomery, whose daughter Everly passed away following a tragic accident on Friday. "Please continue to pray for comfort and peace for her entire family." The Garden of the Gods is known for its scenic views and uneven rock formation. Hikers are allowed to climb on the rocks but officials have warned about the potential risks.
