Kew Gardens today recorded 22.9C while Usk saw 19.3C and Armagh hit 16.3C. This comes after days of torrential rain and heavy flooding with the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings covering parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Some homes and businesses were expected to be flooded amid 11 flood alerts issued to areas across the UK including Dorset, Cornwall, Essex and Gloucestershire.  This morning saw overcast grey skies and a few heavy showers moving north across the UK but this afternoon has brought some warm sunshine. By 3pm, parts of London hit highs of 21C while the southwest recorded temperatures from around 17C to 19C. Moving north, the midlands remained in the mid to late teens while Scotland and Northern Ireland recorded temps of around 14C to 15C. However, winds were also expected to pick up in the west today, with gales averaging at 19mph in Pembrokeshire and 16mph in Plymouth by midday. By the evening the band of rain travelling north will clear Shetland by dawn, according to the Met Office. Meteorologists have predicted clear spells with some heavy rain in the west and south tonight. The west and southwest will continue to feel some strong gusts of wind continuing into the evening.
