US Politics | I’m fighting cancer but face being homeless in just weeks as my housing association is kicking me out

A WOMAN battling cancer has revealed she only has months to move out of her East London flat \- with no where else to go. Rebecca Help is the sole occupant and has slammed her housing association for the ...added stress... of having to relocate from her newbuild flat. BPMA cancer suffer has been told she will be evicted in a few months as remedial work needs to be carried out on her rented East London flat '/ ' BPMResidents who live in the Goodwood block at Walthamstow Stadium feel they have been unfairly treated by the Housing Association and are fighting to be rehomed '/ ' BPMThere are currently some works taking place outside the block '/ ' Rebecca, along with 27 households, are expecting to be served a no fault eviction notice by the Housing Association L&Q in the New Year. Rebecca is perplexed as to why L&Q won't help rehouse the group while remedial work is carried out on the newbuild, leaving many tenants exposed. The patient is fighting a medical battle \- undergoing rounds of chemotherapy and doesn't have the ...mental capacity... to deal with it. Rebecca told MyLondon she has been in touch with L&Q: ...I told them about my situation, and they said, 'Okay, we'll discuss your situation and get back to you'. I've never had a phone call back.... She added: ...They keep saying that they want these one on ones with us, but yet, they're not contacting us. They want us to contact them. It's really, really bad.... L&Q refute this claiming that Rebecca has not been in touch with them. Work on the former Walthamstow Stadium in London site involves rectifying significant problems with the original build including poorly installed cladding. For the past 12 months, tenants say they have been told that they would be decanted and moved temporarily to other properties on site or nearby. However, in September this year, Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) chair Sarah Chaney received a call from L&Q informing that residents would be told they were going to be evicted. Rebecca added: "They've not been the best 'landlords ' anyway, there's always something wrong with this place." While they were set to all be evicted by Christmas, they've now been given until March after a fightback from residents and councillors. Rebecca added: ...You can't change the situation. But having someone have empathy makes a difference, and we haven't even had any of that.... L&Q has refuted the claims saying they have reached out to residents on multiple occasions to organise one-to-one meetings.  A spokesperson from L&Q said they are ...working closely... with the tenants as well as partners in the housing sector to help ...seek alternative housing options... in the local area.  They added: ...We understand how upsetting this situation will be for the privately rented tenants at Goodwood Apartments and are very sorry for this.
