The 1,086 student-strong school will re-open to all pupils on December 1 \- if ...staff illness levels... allow it. But furious mums and dads are sceptical, with some claiming the school will extend the ...ridiculous... measure into next year. In a statement sent to the Sun Online, Nora Ward \- headteacher at The Oxford Acadermy \- said it is a ...last resort.... ...Covid absences among staff mean we have now had to move to remote learning for three of our year groups,... she added. ...I appreciate it is far from ideal for our students and is going to create difficulties for parents and carers. In a post to the school's Facebook page yesterday, Mrs Ward wrote: ...It is with regret that I write to inform you that I have taken the difficult decision to close our school to years 7, 8 and 9, starting tomorrow, 23rd of November. ...Instead of attending school, students in these year groups will be placed on home learning. ...It is not possible for us to be able to operate safely for all of our students due to large numbers of teaching and support staff absent from school. ...As a school, we have done everything we can to cover lessons over the past few weeks with existing staff and by booking supply staff, but we are at a point now where absence levels are beyond our capacity. ...There are also real challenges around securing high quality supply staff in high numbers. ...We will open to all year groups at the earliest opportunity, which is likely to be no sooner than Wednesday, 1st December and is contingent on the staff illness levels....
